lost thoughts
you know that day when you have a bunch of thoughts in your head, you click "new post," ready to throw them all down via typing onto your blog and then.. one little distraction suddenly shifts your thoughts, and you forget what you were about to say?
well, what happens to those thoughts? and those memories? will they ever come back to us?
in psychology, we call them retrieval cues. some small thing, some symbol that reminds us of a bigger picture, a bigger experience that we've shared in the past but somehow forgot. it's because we have such a limited memory capacity (short-term especially, i learned from experience).
but.. in the past month, i haven't really blogged a "daily blog," just thoughts and such. and yet, when i reflect back, reading the posts -- i can't really remember what happened that day and why i posted that and why i thought the way i did, etc. and i'm sad because i feel like i lost the month of october by not doing that. not only that, but i lost the first 8 days of november. and some parts of september. and it's because i've gotten busy, lazy, stressed, sleepy, and a combination of other "IB kid" related adjectives.
i won't let it overcome me though -- i don't want to forget these memories.. these emotions.. these feelings!
after all, the retrieval cues don't come until you've figured out the clue. and if you don't even know the clue, then how can you expect to solve the riddle?
what riddle?
^ my point exactly.
